We also have an in-house hair salon. Our bright and spacious lounges overlook the courtyard and gardens and provide the perfect setting for relaxing, taking part in activities or simply spending time with family and friends who are welcome to visit at any time.

Our Housekeeping and Maintenance teams are also always on hand to add those all-important special touches.
Surrounded by countryside, our gardens and outdoor seating areas provide a tranquil spot for enjoying some al fresco dining, feeding the chickens or tending to the flowers and vegetables grown by the green-fingered members of our Gardening Club.
We have our very own full time Chartered Physiotherapist; Leo Mathew offers a range of specialised Physiotherapy services which can really benefit a person’s ability to live an active, healthy lifestyle. A shared Nellsar culture
As part of a group of Care Homes, we are extremely proud of our caring, supportive culture which embodies empathy, equity, professionalism and continuous improvement. Our shared values focus on the individual – from residents to team members – creating an inclusive environment with both residents and team members at the heart of what we do every day.
Recreation and Well-Being
When residents are admitted to Princess Christian, either for respite or long-term, it’s important that they are able to keep enjoying their interests, hobbies and social life. Our Recreation and Well-Being Team take time to get to know all about the people we care for and create a first-rate programme of activities and outings throughout the week.
Each day we offer a wide range of activities, including arts and crafts, games and clubs and we welcome a range of singers, musicians, Pet Therapy groups and professional entertainers. For those who wish to join in, we also hold church services twice a month with our own choir.
Our minibus is always on hand for trips to the theatre, garden centres, walks along the river or coffee and cake at the local tea-room. Guilford Cathedral is near-by for taking in classical music performances, and in good weather we travel further afield for days at the seaside.
We love to celebrate special occasions and make sure our residents are the centre of attention – birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, Easter, Summer Fetes and everything in between! With themed events throughout the year, we love to open our doors to family and friends and share these special times.
We also take part in regular competitions and activities with our sister Homes. We like to think of it as ‘healthy competition’ but always aim to win! From ‘Sports Day’ to ‘Nellsar In Bloom’ there is always something fun and exciting to join in with.
Dedicated to great food
We are passionate about food and nutrition and giving our residents a first-class dining experience with beautifully presented, delicious meals that cater for each person’s preferences and needs.
Adrian Silaghi (Head of Catering Services for Nellsar) and the Chefs at Princess Christian understand that nutrition and hydration are key to keeping people well, both physically and mentally. As well as all daily main meals and snacks, our kitchenette area and Hydration Station are open 24-hours a day, offering a choice of hot and cold drinks, snacks and tempting freshly baked cakes.
Family and friends are always welcome to share a meal and glass of wine with their loved one and try our menu for themselves.
Leading the way in nutrition and dining
Nellsar is one of the first Care Home Groups to employ a Nutrition and Wellness Manager and we’re lucky to have Leni Wood on board to work with all our Chefs and Catering teams. Adrian (Head of Catering Services) and Leni’s roles complement each other to focus on the individual needs of our residents.
As a member of the National Association for Care Catering, Adrian is leading the way in researching the very latest developments in food technology. Both he and Leni work closely with external professionals including speech and language therapists, environmental health officers and food technology suppliers. |
Delicious puréed meals
For residents with dysphagia, food needs to be soft and easy to swallow. And just as importantly, meals need to look appetising and appealing. The Catering Team’s creativity and unique piping techniques means that our puréed meals look just the same as non-puréed versions.
Using innovative technology, Head Chef Cosmin and his team now offer a completely puréed menu, starting with puréed cooked full English breakfast, continuing with a choice of main meals of the day (lunch, supper and desserts), puréed biscuits and cakes, and ending with puréed fresh fruits for a balanced diet. The presentation of these meals is so important for our residents to help stimulate their appetite and enhance their dining experience. We’re confident that you will be amazed at what can be done with puréed meals |
Nellsar Care and Cookery Book
Pioneers in the Care Catering industry, the Nellsar Care and Cookery Book celebrates our person-centred care catering and nutritional support. We also share some of our residents’ favourite seasonal recipes and an insight into the wonderful cooking clubs in our Care Homes.

Resident of the Day
Our ‘Resident of the Day’ initiative helps each member of the team understand our residents’ likes, dislikes and the things that really make a difference to them. All team members whether Carers, Nurses, Housekeepers or Maintenance find out what’s important to each individual and give them the opportunity to select their favourite meal for Chef to prepare, choose an activity they’d like to do or add any special touches to their room. Family members are invited to be part of these reviews and we always give feedback when their loved one has been Resident of the Day.
If you’d like to find out more about our services or discuss how we can help look after your loved one, please feel free to visit us anytime or call us on 01483 488 917.
