Princess Christian Care Home residents enjoy Cooking Club snacks

On Thursday 4 April we held our popular Cooking Club in our Knaphill Unit here at Princess Christian Care Home.

Together with Lucy from our Activities Team, Head Chef Cosmin prepared tasty plantains and chips for our residents, using our portable stove. We had a laugh as everyone thought he was frying bananas!

Our ladies, gents and team members were all curious to try the plantains which are a major food staple in Africa and America. They are a healthy snack, full of fibre with a sweet taste – everyone really enjoyed them.

Plantain tips

In addition to providing you with energy, plantains boost the immune system, improve digestive health, regulate glucose in the blood, promote heart health, enhance brain function, lower cholesterol, strengthen bones, and are high in essential nutrients like magnesium and potassium. Plantains cannot be eaten raw.

How to cook plantain
Cut each end of the plantain and peel back the skin. Cut into half cm slices on a diagonal to give you a large surface area. Heat oil in a frying pan until hot, then fry the plantain on each side for a couple of minutes until it starts to caramelise, ensuring it doesn’t burn.
