Celebrating Romanian culture at Princess Christian Care Home

On Friday 1 December at Princess Christian Care Home we celebrated Romania’s National Day during our Cooking Club.

Great Union Day is a national holiday in Romania, celebrated each 1 December, marking the unification of Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina with the Romanian Kingdom in 1918, something that is known as the Great Union.

Our residents had the opportunity to try some traditional Romanian food and sweets, while listening to some traditional music.

Our delicious traditional food spread featured:

  • Beef dumplings, goat cheese and pork belly
  • Sarmale – cabbage roll which can be vegetarian or with meat, served with sour cream
  • Famous sweets – Pufuleti (puffed corn) , Eugenia (biscuits filled with cocoa creme) and Halva (sweet filled pastry)

Big thanks to Doina and Ionela for helping with preparing the food and to Adelina and Carol for making our Cooking Club possible in our Bisley Dementia unit. Thanks also to Olivia for crafting the beautiful decorative flags with our residents – they looked wonderful!

All our residents and staff were delighted to try the food and we all enjoyed the day of celebrations.
