Princess Christian Care Home residents impress with their Nellsar Crafty Crown Competition entries

As part of the coronation celebrations at Princess Christian Care Home, all our Units entered a Nellsar-wide competition to design and make an eye-catching coronation crown.

Heading up the competition, Nellsar’s Recreation and Well-Being Manager Viv Stead commented: “The idea was to involve our residents in making something beautiful and memorable to display in their Home or garden that could be enjoyed by everyone for the coronation.”

Our Bisley residents created a wonderful display in our garden, with our king and queen enrobed in Union Jacks and flanked by two sentry guards wearing bearskins!

In Knaphill, our residents enjoyed painting patriotic pendants in red, white and blue to attach to a coronation wind chime. Even Joyce who will be 102 this year participated!

Pirbright residents created a large cut out crown, beautifully decorated with jewels and flowers. They really enjoyed making it together as you can see from their smiley faces!

Although we weren’t crowned amongst the winners, we had so much fun creating our wonderful crowns and display for our coronation celebrations.

The judges commented:

‘Bisley Unit – A fabulous array of crowns and all things royal and regal including their own king and queen, and Grenadier guards!’

‘Knaphill Unit – A wonderful wind chime in the shape of a crown for their garden. Very creative and beautiful – something to be enjoyed throughout the summer.’

Pirbright Unit – A fantastic crown made by the residents, with suggestions from the residents for items that are important to the king – his love of wildlife, sustainability, organic farming and conservation.’

Congratulations again to everyone at Princess Christian involved in creating our fantastic entries for the competition.

Check out the winning entries and all the runners up!
